After spending a day trying to work with water-colour I gave up and decided I’d tackle the project with oils. What a relief. It wasn’t as hard or scary as I thought. I in fact , loved painting her. I have a lot to learn yet but the process isn’t difficult. Once the base coat is on you pretty much sponge the oil paint on. This is the way the Yoshida book shows you and it works like a charm. You brush a little paint on and then dab it about until it is nicely feathered and blended. There is some waiting between coats but when learning it’s better to progress slowly. This doll is quite textured and does look very painted. I like it. Here are the results thus far.
I may work on her face a bit more and I’m sure she will be better looking with some hair .
